How this number was calculated

PTO hours = PTO days × (hours per week ÷ workdays). Hourly equivalent = salary ÷ 52 ÷ hours per week. PTO value = hourly equivalent × PTO hours.

Why PTO belongs in any offer comparison

Two jobs at the same salary aren't equal if one gives you 10 paid days off and the other 25. Each paid day off is a day's pay for time you don't work. Converting days into dollars makes that visible — as long as you remember it's a value of time, not extra cash.

Formula

PTO days × hours per day × (salary ÷ 52 ÷ hours per week) = estimated PTO value

Example: 15 days × 8 h × $30 = $3,600.00.

Accrual, caps and payout

  • Many employers accrue PTO per pay period, so a new hire may not have the full amount in year one.
  • Some cap how much can be carried over; unused days above the cap may be lost.
  • Payout of unused PTO when you leave depends on policy and state law — ask, and check your state labor office.
  • "Unlimited" PTO has no balance to pay out; what matters is how much people actually take.

Comparing offers? The job offer comparison counts PTO and holidays when it works out pay per hour.
